Seeking His Mind
Plenty of evidence can be found among both the Israelites and the early church for seeking the mind of the Lord. When faced with issues, wisdom directed both entities to stop and find the path of His thinking. Here is a passage in Leviticus which grabs one's attention along this line.
Yes, Israel waited on the Lord, during the days of Moses, to find what He wanted. Imagine!
(Acknowledging His ways as higher than theirs, they did not move without searching out His will.)
Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman's son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp. 11 And the Israelite woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD and cursed; and so they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12 Then they put him in custody, that the mind of the LORD might be shown to them.
13 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 14 'Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.'
Assuredly, the sentence passed down from the heavens was not easy or compromising, but it was plainly understood. Moderns often think these "ancient Ones" lacked spiritual understanding, because they did not have the New Testament to base their ideology upon. (Advanced theology has been touted to have placated one's need to fall before the throne and ask for His reasoning. After all, where is the congregation that stops all activity and falls before God to seek His wisdom and then, will only move when He answers?)
Early in his reign, King David would not go into battle without knowing the "mind of the Lord."
(Think of the anxious soldiers awaiting the "marching sound in the tops of the mulberry trees." Consider the assurance that the rushing wind gave them. Their hearts were confident of victory, the moment the sound started.) David did as the Lord commanded him. Talk about moving with conviction, determination and fire-the swelling ingredients of the moment gave vent to a course and a cause from which none of his troops wished to turn. Unity was integral to their situation and it was a unity of spirit-the kind the church should possess.
2 Sam 5:17-6:1 Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. 18 The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?"
And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand."
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim. 21 And they left their images there, and David and his men carried them away.
22 Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 23 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, and He said, "You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 24 And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines." 25 And David did so, as the LORD commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.
Fly into the domain of modern religion now and look at their efforts to arrive at unity-mostly without a clear understanding of the will of God. Look at the disastrous results of indebted congregations that could have prospered under a "divine unction." Realize the moments in one's personal life where decisions have been reached apart from a "heavenly imperative." Multiply such travesty in terms of national scope, with governments devoid of spiritual direction. View world religious organizational processes that seek to contravene huge moral and social issues with powerless solutions, all because they did not inquire of the Lord.
Deep in the heart of Jesus' half brother there was housed an answer to much of the modern dilemma.
Our generation lacks wisdom, but who among us will stand on the Word of God and acquire it by faith based on the assurance of, "it will be given to him." Deep within this scripture is the premise that God will answer, give and not scold anyone who comes with a steadfast faith filled heart.
4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
David never doubted that God would answer him. The people in Moses' day did not doubt that they would hear and know the "mind of the Lord." Upper room saints waited with confidence until the "rushing mighty wind" and "cloven tongues of fire" came. They determined they would not utter one word to an inquiring world until they were baptized in the Spirit.
Today's church-attendees find the admission of their lack of Godly wisdom a threat to their ego. (It is a challenge to "receive from heaven" when the noise of earth fills the ear.)
Hear again as James unfolds the power of "that kind of wisdom." None of the true works of God can be accomplished without "this kind of wisdom." To think that the work of the church can be accomplished without His wisdom is to stray.
Being removed so far from God's Wisdom has caused those elements which pour from it (pure, peaceable, gentle etc.) to be absent in homes, schools and churches. Societies in general, show few examples of having been influenced by these traits. None of the descriptive elements of true wisdom are displayed in media (internet, TV, movies, music) or the montage called "modern living."
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Law makers in most countries seek to strangle the last vestige of the fruits of God's Wisdom from their populace. The early founders of the U.S. have been marginalized and framed as "old world," in an attempt to minimize their influence and dependence on God and His word. The Wisdom displayed by the founders came from above, and the Constitution and governmental framework of America was not simply the issuance from their own intellect. Erase as the social politicians may try, the higher Wisdom of God stands above their philosophic conundrums. The path of leadership's lower level conclusions will lead to their destruction, and the nations which follow them will suffer great loss. The cadre of consequences for pursuing "worldly Wisdom" comes from the realm of the demonic. It becomes low level thinking at its highest. (For instance, the increase of knowledge emanating from technology is basically shallow and lacks spiritual depth in how to use it. This is why its end result is an enslavement of it adherents through indoctrination and surveillance. Through its flow is a worldwide unity through cyber language which is based on Worldly Wisdom. The techno-universe has been founded on the same principles as Babel, and its mind set is the same. So, its end result will be the same.)
Jehovah God reads the intent of the heart and searches the mind of individuals and societies. Social Mind created the ancient tower and dictated its goal of elevating man to rule over a domain devoid of God's Wisdom. It failed.
Babel would not have been destroyed if its intent had been pure, holy, peaceable, gentle, yielded, merciful and for the glory of God. If language confusion was its result, what will be the result of our insult by Godless science?
In order to see things a bit clearer, let us consider Job. Job's persistence to know God's wisdom--His plan and purpose--caused the Lord to reveal His vastness.
1 Chronicles 28:9 David's words to Solomon
'As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. '
Men need Wisdom from higher realms, and there is only one source. Heavenly Wisdom is just more expansive than worldly wisdom in that it operates on a higher plain. But, the secret realms of God's power are made available only to His Holiness Ones (as in the case of Job).
Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, 'Here we are!'?
36 Who has put wisdom in the mind?
Or who has given understanding to the heart?
37 Who can number the clouds by wisdom?
Testimonies abound of those who have achieved break-throughs in science and technology by prayer and supplication. (The orbiting satellites that carry much of the world's media was achieved by supernatural means. [I have heard the man responsible for the small dish receivers tell how God enlightened his mind after weeks of prayer.])
We need, more than anything else, to seek the Higher Wisdom of God for present day solutions.
The study of "this kind of Wisdom" requires more than hunting through scripture for those verses which repeat the word. Such a study must include references to such words as "wise," "thoughts," "mind," "intent," "heart."
Godly Wisdom is an expansive study including the miraculous and the mysterious as well.
A great example of seeking the mind of the Lord was John G. Lake. Although
thousands of miracles were attributed to him and his close walk with God became
well known, he sought to enter a realm of being beyond any area probed by man.
He desperately sought God's understanding of that which stood as a wall between
Him and the exercise of greater wonders. He hounded God for the answer, and I
believe God showed him, but on the other side. He died at age 65.
God will reveal Himself and will impart His wisdom to His saints! It is His choice of when and where.
Again, David is an example of God sharing His mind when David engineered the Temple.
Saint's minds are capable of receiving vastly more than what is available to the world. We are able to communicate on a higher plain, to receive revelation at an expanded level and envision that which is not as though it was. We have the mind of Christ!
1 Chronicles 28:11-12
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper parts, its inner rooms and the place of atonement. 12 He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the LORD and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple
We are NOT those who build upon the sand (the wise man built upon the rock. Matthew 7:24). We are NOT among the five foolish virgins, who let their lamps exhaust to a flicker (the wise virgins had their lamps trimmed and oil supply in abundance Matthew 25:4). We are the wise servants who have done the very best with the resources trusted to us (Matthew 24:46)!
It is through us that God destroys the wisdom of the wise and frustrates the intelligence of the intelligent (I Corinthians 1:19). We are the recipients of Jesus' teaching.
We have the right to press into God and seek His mind. Paul, whose education excelled, wrote the following:
25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure."
We have already been entrusted with the secrets of God and must prove ourselves faithful.
1 Corinthians 1:27-31
7 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
It is our sacred duty to walk in the higher realms. We must walk on the level of the throne and stop reacting to the muddling affairs of this world. The following verses speak to both you and me.
1 Corinthians 3:18-4:2
18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness;" 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." 21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
1 Corinthians 4
4:1 So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful
(For further study, look at the multiple verses of Solomon's writings in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes
focused on the word "wise.")
15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
There is a simple verse in Revelation which speaks to the mind-set of wisdom. As a matter of fact, it all but declares it impossible to understand Revelations content apart from it.
(Incremental to "the mind of wisdom" is the spirit of discernment, and the source of both is the Holy Spirit. So interwoven are the threads of these elements that they are inseparable in our being.)
"This calls for a mind with wisdom."
Paul did a treatise on this kind of mind, and it beautifully describes the mindset of the believer vs. the unbeliever.
Scripture catalogues the mind of sinful man. This mind-set is antithetical to yours as you are the saints of God. Perhaps at one time you had this kind of mind, but now it is foreign and despicable. Maybe you have been separated from such for so long that you look at these descriptions and are amazed how many of your relationships display this worldly thought mechanism. (When the guiding light within leaders and officials is only characterized by the following can one see how twisted and ill functioning are their plans and designs? They become like ravenous wolves instead of creatures designed after God. Nebuchadnezzar found this out the hard way.)
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.
Fortunately, I can end this segment on Wisdom with a more favorable passage, which can be introduced at this time because the whole purpose of the newsletter has been leading up to it.
l. Paul says to Timothy: (1 Tim 6) men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth.
2. Paul to the Colossians: (Col 2:18-19) Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. 19 He has lost connection with the Head,
3. (Rom 8:7-8) the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
4 ( Rom 1:28-29) He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
5. The Psalmist called the sinful mind a "cunning mind."
(Ps 64:6-8) They plot injustice and say,
"We have devised a perfect plan!"
Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning.
6 But God will shoot them with arrows;
suddenly they will be struck down.
7 He will turn their own tongues against them
and bring them to ruin;
all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
Today, I heard a dear mother in the church give her testimony about events in her life that proved how the Spirit lives within a person's life. She gave witness to a time when a robber entered her home and held a gun to her head and how the Spirit told her what to do. She actually drove the robber from her home with no harm to herself. She told of being maimed on a mission's trip to Africa and how the Spirit told her what to do and how He would heal her leg. She revealed how she relied on Scripture and said, "It says this and this Lord, and I believe you are in me and will bring it to pass." He did. The glory of God surrounded this precious saint during her message to the church, so much so, that many came to trust the Lord and all were edified and uplifted. That is what church is all about
2 Timothy 3:12-17
2 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Until Next Month,

From the Mailbag:
Mac K, Shelby Co. , Texas. (Response to May l, newsletter)
God has given me a vision that He is going to raise up 36 prayer vigils in Shelby County 2 men at night shifts and 2 women in Day shifts. He said there would be 12 groups to honor the 12 Apostles and 3 vigils for each of the 12.
In His Glorious Service
Mac: You have since called and reported a revival was taking place where you are. Praise the Lord.

Thank you for that living word. The Day is upon us and men know it not. "They knew not until the flood came..." Right thinking produces right living.

It seems in 'goggling' for your referenced book, the only site that I have been able to find that has copies from which to purchase is Amazon. I no longer purchase from Amazon - it is a principle matter for me due to the owners' choices in issues they support -
Marie: your email allows me to honor your decision on not trading with some retailers. I no longer purchase from Target due to their policies. The time has come to vote with our business.
Thanks so much for speaking up.
Lois, M. Colorado (response to May l, newsletter)
I am going through my books and getting rid of the books by ministers who have had affairs with other women. The only good books are the ones by Dr. Oliver. Dr. Oliver, keep on keeping on. Get your books out to people who need to wake up before it is too late. The churches are FALLING AWAY.
I am starting Sons of Zadok again.
God is good. I am busy as usual mentoring women with a walk with God. I tell them the TRUTH and they receive it, and they thank me...
I always look forward to the monthly newsletter. I am always so blessed. I know you pray a lot in writing it.
Richard, K. Maryland
The Holy Spirit impressed on me the other day and then again this morning to order a copy of your books (I already had the Regal Pair). I sense that the days are quickly approaching when being able to ship these in any kind of normal approach are waning fast. Jeremiah 51 is unfolding for the United States before our eyes…We don't have much time before this country's pride will be brought low. Will the trigger be the renewed push to divide the land of Israel or the ultimate abomination, gay marriage? God knows. I would have thought that it would have happened already. God has shown tremendous restraint and mercy on such a rebellious people. You said it in your audio, "How in the World did we wind up here?" Judgment begins at the house of God. In my own home state, they recently voted for gay marriage. There was no outcry from the organized churches. No demonstrations in Annapolis...shameful.
A cup of cold Water in Jesus' Name
From Barnabas Mam:
"General Lai of Koh Kong Prison had breakfast with me this morning in Phnom Penh. He brought two photos to update the Pond Deepening Project to provide clean water for the people in Koh Kong Prison.
The pond is 42 m wide, 45 m long and 3.50 m deep. The prison is blessed with two big ponds one was deepened with the fund provided by Oliver Evangelistic Association in partnership with AFCI and the other was done with the fund provided by another generous donor. Everyone in the prison rejoices over the job done. There will be more water supply for Koh Kong Prison now. Please give praise to the Lord with us as the job is well done. The believers there are praying for God's timely provision for 40 sets of benches and tables so they can use it in the dining rooms as well as in the classrooms."
General Lai and Pastor Sareun acknowledge the donation from Oliver Evangelistic Association (OEA)
The pond is being deepened to provide needed water for the prisoners
Prisoners need caring for too. OEA sent the funds last month and the reward is for all who have sent gifts ... be blessed with this information.
Our Missionaries to Guatemala enter area where workers Stoned.
OEA and its members support this feeding station from gifts by Jim and Brenda McCants. The stoning took place around May 13. A prayer request went out as the workers were frightened and considered closing the station. This is a response to the courageous visit by Larry and Marla Johnson.
"Thanks to everyone praying for us today.....prayer makes such a difference! We are back from the village and everything went very well! First we met with the Pastor and his wife who run the feeding center--but as we were talking more and more ladies began to show up--all to say please don't stop the feeding center! They said that despite what had happened they wanted to continue because that is how their children eat. They said that their children had fallen in love with the "gringitos" (little gringos). One lady even said that when she told her son that we were coming today he asked why. She told him because of the problems that we might close the center, she said he told her "but mommy if they close the center we won't have food, we won't get to ever play with our gringo friends, we won't see sister Marla, they will never bring a medical team to make us well....please tell them to not close the feeding center momma!" I started to cry! The ladies said they will do whatever it takes to keep it open. So, we went to talk to the person who threw stones at them and threatened to their face to kill them. It is a married couple, when we got to their house the woman was very ill, her right arm numb and part of her face. We listened as they expressed hurts and offenses. Many of the ladies and some of the husbands showed up too! The man was very agitated and storming around, obviously very angry. After prayer for the woman and much, much, much counseling to calm the man down, everyone cried, asked for forgiveness, hugged, cried some more, prayed some more and we left the village a little happier and full of peace! That doesn't just happen! Prayer made that happen! Your partnership with us is so vital!! thank you for loving us and Guatemala and for being so faithful to pray! And best of all......the man and woman got things right with the Lord and repented asking the Lord to wash them and make them clean by His blood!
Partners in the Field,
Larry & Marla"
